The Times Higher Education (THE) global and annual ranking of higher education institutions based on employability criteria has just been published. France consolidates its position there since it appears, like last year, in second place in this ranking bringing together the 250 establishments most sought after by recruiters and managers around the world.
Since 2010, the Global Employability University Ranking and Survey , a global ranking of higher education establishments (universities and grandes écoles), established according to the employability of their graduates, has been carried out by the human resources consulting firm for the Emerging higher education and published by the Times Higher Education. In 2021, more than 10,000 international recruiters and managers located in 23 countries were consulted to establish the new edition of this ranking.
The importance of the employability criterion
"When it comes to deciding where to study, employability becomes an increasingly important factor." This is the opinion of THE in its presentation of the 2021 results of its ranking which "shows that employers are increasingly looking for graduates with strong skills rather than focusing on the prestige of the university they attended. ".
The ranking results from a survey this year covering "118,196 votes cast by 10,928 international recruiters and managers supervising five or more graduates per year". These recruiters and managers were able to select up to 15 establishments from a list of 2000 and had to give reasons for their votes. In total, universities and schools from 44 countries are thus represented in a ranking which brings together the 250 most popular establishments .
France among the skyrocketing countries
On the leading podium , the United States, France and the United Kingdom share the first three places . The three countries are in fact the best represented in the table out of a total of 44 countries. Coming after the United States but ahead of the United Kingdom, France, which is again this year in 2nd position, is one of these "countries which are soaring" according to THE.
Based on the total number of votes received, the United States remains at the top of the list, with more than 25% of all votes cast, holding 54 of the 250 places. But, with 17 classified establishments, France manages for its part to overtake the United Kingdom by a short head and keep its second place. In the Top 10 ranked countries are then, in descending order, Germany, China, Canada, Japan, Australia, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
CentraleSupélec at the top of the Top 10 French establishments
In total, therefore, 17 French establishments have come this year to rank in the Global University Employability Ranking. As THE notes, "the grandes écoles, elite French establishments created to train civil servants and businessmen, rank particularly well in the employability classification". Nevertheless, the THE believes, "business schools also feature prominently."
More precisely, in the French Top 10, we first find CentraleSupélec , in 22nd position worldwide, which has gained 22 places in one year and which benefits from a laudatory comment from THE: "international reputation for excellence" and "graduates who are among the best paid in France ".
